RAWI is a national organization that provides mentoring, community, and support for Arab American writers and those with roots in the Arabic-speaking world and diaspora. In 2022, I worked with the board to create a branding system for RAWI including a complimentary sub-brand for their annual festival, RAWIfest. I designed the main logo with an arc shape to evoke wholeness and inclusion. I expanded the color palette for RAWIfest to jewel toned rainbow shades to evoke the excitement and vibrancy of their event.
For this project I worked with Alec at Safe Passage (a nonprofit serving survivors of domestic violence) to create a logo and color palette for the organization’s anthology, Survivor Anthology Project, a project featuring collections of stories and artwork in English and Spanish from survivors of domestic violence/relationship abuse. Together we honed imagery of a stump sprout (I think it also looks like a quill) to evoke resilience and new beginnings. I created a few different layouts and colorways for their logo to grow with them, and designed the stump sprout icon to be able to be used on its own for social media imagery.
I designed collateral for Devin Devine’s substack. The main emotions we were trying to evoke with this imagery is Queer Yearning using botanical images of figs. I also hand-lettered the “Stay hungry, stay horny” signoff.
FEMS (2017-2022) was a slam tournament & poetry community that centered femme people in their various intersections. I wanted to make a system for them that was easy to implement for volunteer designers of varying experience, but didn’t feel too stuffy or corporate. I wanted to reflect their grassroots style, so I gave the flowers in the logo a more home-grown feel, and went with a script typeface for headings. I gave them a long logo style (bookended by the microphone logo), and a shorter motif (the logo itself with no text). In 2018, FEMS achieved nonprofit status with my branding as the face of their important, necessary work.
