Broadsides are art prints of poems (or lines from a poem/poet). They’re a true passion of mine: I love the intersection of art and poetry, I love the way images enhance a poem’s meaning, and I love that someone can identify with a poem so much that they need to see it every day on their wall.
Two traditions I’ll never tire of are (1) beautifully designed poetry broadsides, and (2) small trim sizes you can easily add to a gallery wall. For this project, I made a set of postcard-sized (5”x7”) prints for the Boston Poetry Slam team to fundraise to compete at the National Poetry Slam in 2018. There were 5 members on the team, so I took lines from each of our poems and set them using public domain botanical artwork from the 1800’s. I specifically tried to pick flowers/plants that reminded me of each poet. These were printed on 80# cardstock.
